Stainless Steel 316 Round Bar is made up of an austenitic stainless steel type that has chromium, nickel and molybdenum in the composition. The SS 316 Rod is the second most used of the stainless steel bars next to the 304 grade of bars. There are different specifications to the round bars such as the ASTM A276 type 316 Bright Round bars which are intended for high temperature applications.

The different finishes such as bright, polished and black bars are useful in different applications. The UNS S31600 AISI 316 Black Bar is raw and can be used in low oxidizing, low corrosive areas. The coated, bright and polished bars have less corrosion risk. The 316 material is particularly resistant to chloride ion corrosion. So the ASTM A479 Stainless Steel 316 Hex Bar and other types are mostly used in marine and sea water structural applications.

The minimum yield strength of the material is 205MPa and the minimum tensile strength is 515MPa. The SS 316 Cold Drawn Round Bar has 35% elongation rate and has very high melting point of 1454 degrees Celsius.
